Chellaram Shipping, “Chellship” took delivery of the 64,670 DWT Ultramax M.V. Darya Jiya on 13th January 2025 from New Dayang Shipbuilding Company, Yangzhou, China at a memorable and wonderful Naming & Delivery Ceremony. This is the second in a series of three ships being built at New Dayang to join the Chellship Fleet.
The naming ceremony began with a beautiful prayer ceremony conducted by Mrs. Indira Ramani, wife of Mr Sankara Narayanan, Director of Chellship, followed by speeches from Mr. Xu Bin of SUMEC Marine, who thanked Chellship for entrusting the yard with building its vessels and the Chellship team for their cooperation in the building and smooth delivery of the vessel. Mr. Sankara Narayanan, in his speech, commended New Dayang for their dedication to excellence and quality in shipbuilding. He also highlighted Chellship’s strong commitment to environmental sustainability and green shipping. By leveraging cutting-edge technology, Chellship aims to maximize energy efficiency and minimize its carbon footprint, both at the organizational and individual levels.
Mrs Indira Ramani, as the God Mother, Christened the vessel and offered her good wishes to all who sail on the vessel. Mr. Rakesh Krishnan, Vessel Manager Technical, Chellship, did the traditional breaking of a coconut on the vessel’s hull. The Naming & Delivery Ceremony was followed by a celebratory luncheon hosted by SUMEC and New Dayang.
Darya Jiya means the ‘Life of the Sea,’ and we hope and pray that like a vibrant and enduring force, the vessel will nurture those associated with her, guiding them towards a healthy, safe, and sustainable future. Darya Jiya departed on her maiden voyage on the 13th of January 2025 to load a cargo of Potash from Vancouver, Canada under the command of Capt Amit Kumar.
