The 3-day Chellship Fleet Seminar 2024, themed “There is But One Earth,” was an enlightening journey from discussions on sustainability to insights into health and industry regulations, leaving participants inspired and informed. Held amidst the tranquil ambiance of Della Resorts in Lonavala, attendees not only indulged in thought-provoking sessions but also enjoyed the luxury and comfort of this scenic venue.
With a total of 84 participants, including the spouses of our senior ship-staff, the event became a nexus of knowledge and camaraderie, set against a backdrop of opulence and relaxation. The voyage commenced with the impassioned call of our Group Chairman, Mr. Lal Chellaram, for environmental stewardship, health enhancement, and employee well-being. The environmental Sessions were kickstarted by the keynote speaker Mr. Torben Norgaad from Maersk Mc-Kinney Moller Center for Zero Carbon Shipping, Copenhagen and delved into green initiatives, alternative fuels, and fuel efficiency enhancement.
On the second day, Dr. Unnikrishnan, renowned Endocrinologist and CEO of Chellaram Diabetes Institute, Pune shed light on the perils of smoking and the significance of embracing a healthy lifestyle. Dietician Ms. Sheryl Salis detailed the benefits of adopting a plant-based diet for promoting longevity and maintaining healthy aging. She explored various dietary approaches and underscored the significance of farm-to-fork cuisine and the value of home-cooked meals. The importance of adopting a vegetarian diet for environmental preservation took centre stage, emphasizing the need for sustainable dietary choices to combat climate change and support animal welfare. Discussions on EU ETS and alternative fuels sparked engaging exchanges. Insights into “Greenship” from DNV further enriched our understanding of decarbonisation.
The final day started in the same way as the second day with all the participants taking part in a morning fitness session comprising Yoga and Physical Fitness, conducted by experts from the Wellness team of Chellaram Diabetes Institute. Further driving home the organisations focus on health and wellbeing of its valuable staff. Thereafter the day focused on clean rivers, personnel safety, and future strides toward a greener, healthier maritime industry. Attendees explored topics ranging from smoking cessation to voyage optimization, showcasing a tangible commitment to sustainable practices, including the banning of smoking and reduction of onboard plastics.
Capt. Shrikant Saraswate, Capt. Parag Driver and Chief Engineer Arvind Kumar, having completed over 20 contract each with Chellship, were felicitated in recognition of their long and loyal service.
As the seminar concluded, participants and their families cherished the moments spent at Della Resorts, reflecting on the bonds formed and memories made. Let us continue sailing towards a cleaner, healthier future together.
Amidst jubilation and longstanding tradition, we joyously welcomed the majestic 63,200 DWT Ultramax vessel, christened “DARYA NITYA,” into our Chellship fleet on April 29th, 2024. This momentous occasion marks the induction of Darya Nitya as the 24th vessel in our illustrious fleet, a testament to our enduring maritime legacy.
The ceremony commenced with the stirring rendition of the National anthems of India and China, setting a poignant tone for the memorable event: Mrs. Preeti D’Costa, wife of Capt. Sheriff D’Costa,General Manager, Chellaram Shipping, India led a heartfelt prayer, imbuing the atmosphere with blessings and grace.
The christening of the vessel, done by God Mother Mrs. Preeti D’Costa, was a proud and honourable moment. This was followed by the symbolic breaking of a Champagne bottle on the ship’s hull, evoking maritime heritage and tradition. Additionally, the traditional coconut-breaking ceremony was led by Mr. Arun Kumar, Sr. Vessel Manager,Chellship.
“Darya Nitya,” meaning ‘Tradition of the Sea,’ embodies our unwavering commitment to maritime excellence and heritage. The significance of “Nitya,” representing eternal and never fading, adds depth to the vessel’s name.
Following the ceremony, the esteemed guests had the privilege of attending a celebratory luncheon hosted by Jiangsu Yangzi-Mitsui Shipbuilding Co., Ltd, China, where heartfelt exchanges of gifts took place.
Capt. D’Costa, in his address, expressed profound gratitude to Jiangsu Yangzi-Mitsui Shipbuilding Co., Ltd for delivering this remarkable vessel equipped with energy-saving devices such as Pre shrouded Vanes, Rudder Bulb, and high-quality anti-fouling paints.
As Darya Nitya embarks on her maiden voyage on April 30th, 2024, to load cargo from Canada to China, we eagerly anticipate a journey brimming with success, safety, and prosperity. Here’s to smooth sailing and the promise of countless milestones ahead!
Chellaram Shipping (“Chellship”) took delivery of the 39,760 DWT Handysize, M.V. Darya Mahi, at a glorious Naming & Delivery Ceremony on 05 March 2024 from Onomichi Dockyard Co., Ltd, Japan (“Onomichi”). This is the second vessel to be delivered by Onomichi to Chellship and the 23rd vessel in the Chellship Fleet.
The naming ceremony began with a beautiful prayer ceremony conducted by Mrs. Vivian Khurana, wife of Mr. Vishal Khurana, Director and Chief Executive of Chellship, followed by the National anthems of India and Japan. Mrs Khurana, as the God Mother, named the vessel and offered her good wishes to all who sail on her.
The name DARYA MAHI is in reverence to the River Mahi, which is one of the few west-flowing rivers in India that flows into the Arabian Sea after passing through 3 different states.
Mr. Rajesh Kumar, Senior Vessel Manager, Chellship, did the traditional breaking of a coconut on the vessel’s hull.
The Naming & Delivery Ceremony was followed by a celebratory luncheon hosted by Onomichi. Mr Takashi Nakabe, President, Onomichi Dockyard acknowledged Chellship’s excellent reputation and thanked the Company for its Team’s very good co-operation in the building of both the vessels.
Mr. Vishal Khurana, congratulated Onomichi for their commitment to excellence and perfection in ship-building. He also highlighted Chellship’s serious commitment to environmental sustainability and green shipping, with the application of the latest technology and energy saving devices in its Fleet.
Darya Mahi departed on her maiden voyage on 5th March 2024 to load cargo from Portland, USA.
