Training

Company started inhouse training establishment in 2001 for their own Seafarers. The effective inhouse training has been imparted not only to enhance the skill and requisite competence but also to motivate ship’s staff to ensure the environmental friendly safe economical operation of the modern vessels.

The company’s dedicated manning agent in Mumbai, Chellaram Shipping Pvt Ltd (CSPL), runs an in-house training establishment, which has a Full Mission Ship Maneuvering Simulator and various types of ECDIS and PMS software’s in use.

The company’s in-house training establishment upgrades and conducts various value added courses such as commercial, Bridge Team Management, Technical, Safety and other courses to enhance ship’s staff skills and competencies.

Chellaram Shipping has supported young talents in shipping from T. S. Chanakya, Tolani, IMI, AMET, HIMT, MERI, TS Rahman, NUSI Maritime Academy & other institutes in order to encourage young people to take up sea career and has also instituted Prizes and Scholarships to motivate/encourage the trainees over many years.

Company invests heavily in their training by having additional resources for training in house including simulator training and on board training to produce good quality seafarers, engineers and officers which are well regarded in the industry. Our vision is to give back to the Society to ensure sustainable development.

All Trainees are familiarized on safety awareness training prior their initial onboard placement. Company has made SSTP (Shipboard Structured Training Programme) for Deck Cadets in line with IMU Cadet Record Book and monitors it effectively. Deck Cadets and Ratings who passed out their COC are trained inhouse on their next rank responsibilities tasks prior their placement as a Junior Officer . These Junior officers are sent for additional onboard training in their first contract on parallel voyage of one month for cadets and three months for ratings prior taking over as a OOW. Parallel voyage of trainees for onboard training is additional cost to Company where trainees are tutored to acquire requisite professional maritime skill.
