Delivery Of Darya Priya



Chellaram Shipping, “Chellship” took delivery of the 64,700 DWT Ultramax M.V. Darya Priya on 26th July 2025 from New Dayang Shipbuilding Company, Yangzhou, China at a memorable and wonderful Naming & Delivery Ceremony. This is the final vessel in a series of three ships built at New Dayang to join the Chellship Fleet.

The naming ceremony began with speech from Mr. Xu Bin, General Manager, SUMEC Marine, who thanked Chellship for long-standing trust and support and emphasized on the solid foundation laid for future collaboration. This was followed by a speech from Mr. Prakash Bhoopatkar, Vice Chairman, Chellaram Group, in his speech, commended New Dayang for their unwavering commitment to excellence in optimization and efficiency which resulted in this vessel being delivered over 2 months ahead of the contracted schedule. He also highlighted Chellship’s strong commitment to sustainability and green shipping with environmental initiatives well above the rule requirements.

Mrs. Nayana Bhoopatkar, wife of Mr. Prakash Bhoopatkar as the God Mother, Christened the vessel and offered her good wishes to all who sail on the vessel. The naming ceremony was followed with a beautiful Indian prayer ceremony conducted on the Bridge of Darya Priya by Mrs. Nayana Bhoopatkar, attended by ship-staff, guests and Mrs Smita Tetarbe, wife of Capt. Rajiv Tetarbe, Commercial Director, Chellship. Capt Tetarbe explained the importance and significance of the Indian prayer to the esteemed guests.

Mr. Mayur Khaneja, Deputy General Manager, Chellship, did the traditional breaking of a coconut on the vessel’s bridge wing. The Naming Ceremony was followed by a celebratory luncheon hosted by SUMEC and New Dayang.

Darya Priya means the ‘Beloved of the Sea’, and we hope and pray that like a vibrant and enduring force, the vessel will nurture those associated with her, guiding them towards a healthy, safe, and sustainable future. Darya Priya departed on her maiden voyage on the 26th of July 2025 to load a cargo of Potash from Vancouver, Canada under the command of Capt Arun Singh.
